Nu-Way is a small chain of restaurants serving loose meat sandwiches - much like Iowa Maid Rite chain. This restaurant was the very first Nu-Way. It opened on July 4, 1930, and still anchors the 6 Nu-Ways located in Wichita, Kansas. The diner style furnishings look like they date from the '30s or '40s. The crumbly loose hamburgers are good, and many people will visit the store just to try the product they remember from years ago when there were more Nu-Way restaurants across the center of the country. But unlike some of the remaining Nu-Ways where the other products have suffered, everything I've tried during repeated visits to the Nu-Way Cafe has been good. So good that after having my first meal at the Douglas Avenue Nu-Way on a Saturday evening, I returned for lunch the following day. I hardly ever go to Wichita without stopping at Nu-Way at least once. The French fries are above average, and the onion rings are even better! The root beer is made daily and it is as good as I have ever had. It also makes a wonderful root beer float. They even sell the root beer by the half gallon if you wish to take some home. The Nu-Way Cafe has friendly employees. They even gave me the coupon special price, when I didn't have a coupon. But you can visit the Wichita Nu-Way chain website, and print the coupons before you go.
